New application of VR technology: virtual eating

Project Nourished hopes that those who don't want to gain weight or are allergic to food can eat and drink without restraint. The company is developing a VR helmet that allows you to smell and "taste" food, but actually doesn't eat them into your mouth.

Once you are transferred to the virtual world and sit down at the table, the aroma diffuser uses ultrasound and heating to give off the smell of various foods, allowing you to smell what the kitchen is cooking. The helmet is equipped with a gyroscope and some sensors that track your movements and allow you to better integrate into the virtual world.

The bone conduction sensor can mimic chewing. The chewing sensation will be transmitted from your mouth to the eardrum. The food on the plate is a 3D printer to show the texture of the food.

This futuristic culinary experience is a wonderful vision of the Kokiri Lab in Los Angeles, inspired by a plot in the 1990s movie Hook, Peter Pan, who made a big meal by imagining nothing.

Jinsoo An, founder of Kokiri Lab's founder project, believes that nourishment is a pioneering way to eat.

“There has been no change in the way we have been eating for thousands of years, which has disappointed me. I hope that everyone realizes that we don’t have to be comfortable with the status quo,” he said. “I also want to make it clear that I don’t want to use it to replace the way we consume food. It’s just another option.”

The choices are: no table knives, forks and napkins and dirty dishes, only fragrance diffusers, bone conduction sensors, gyroscopes, virtual cocktail glasses and 3D printed food.
