Spring tea does not germinate

Irregular weather affects the growth of spring tea

On the whole day of the 24th, the tea farmer Wei Cunyou in the 5th group of Ganxi Village in Zhongfeng Township, Mingshan County, Ya'an City, wandered around the tea garden. On the phone, the weather forecast information of the strongly cooled weather in the last few days showed him a good face.

In the tea garden, the reporter saw that occasionally there were a few fresh yellow buds that had just emerged.

“If this time last year, the tea garden was already busy!” Wei Cunyong’s family has a total of more than 70 acres of tea gardens. Each year in spring and summer, more than 60 tea pickers go uphill to collect tea. At the moment, because of the persistent rain and snow that persists in the winter and this spring, the buds cannot bloom.

In order to allow the tea garden to germinate at an early date, many local villagers have also adopted measures such as straw mulching and fertilization, but the effect is minimal.

"Snow and snow" benefits outweigh the disadvantages

According to Chen Shuqian, secretary-general of the Ya'an Tea Association, the rain and snow caused some tea frostbite on the tea grown in the mountains, but less than 50,000 mu above sea level at 1,200 meters above sea level, and they are all old Sichuan teas that breed and have strong cold resistance. . As Anhui, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hunan, and other major tea regions have encountered snow and ice weather, the advantage of Ya'an Spring Tea's early listing is still evident.

Experts said that the continued snowfall will outweigh the disadvantages of Ya'an tea production: The snowmelt will provide sufficient water for the growth of tea trees with huge demand for water, maintain soil moisture, prevent spring drought, and facilitate the germination of spring tea. At the same time, the snowfall and cold weather will help kill the eggs of insect pests in the soil of tea gardens and reduce the pests and diseases in summer and fall this year. Experts predict that the output of tea production in Ya'an and even Sichuan this year should be equal to that of previous years, and even slightly increase production. "The share of Sichuan tea in the domestic spring tea market will continue to increase this year, and Ya'an tea will be a development opportunity."

The key is in the marketing

“The key to the increase in tea income is whether the next step in picking, processing, or sales is to be tightened.” Tea experts such as Du Xiao are concerned that the upcoming spring tea harvest period is completely different from that of the previous year, and the tea farmers and relevant departments are not right. New phenomena and new problems have attracted great attention. Early investigation of the plan and active response may have extremely serious consequences.

Du Xiao, a professor of tea science at Sichuan Agricultural University, believes that the snow disaster has delayed the spring tea production period and shortened the production period of famous tea. However, the total tea output will not be reduced or even increased, which determines the “picking, processing, and processing of spring tea”. Sales will be highly concentrated and work intensity will increase.

“Once the weather turns warm, the tea leaves sprout, and if you do not pick the buds first and then become buds and leaves, you lose the price.” Many of the tea farmers such as Wei Cunyou have such concerns.

"Chai Tea Girl" is still pretty

Yaan has put into operation 33 million mu of tea gardens. For a long time, the demand gap for Ya'an tea-picking workers has been around 80,000, among which Mingshan County is the most prominent. For every mu of tea garden, at least one tea picker is needed to ensure timely picking of fresh leaves. Tea pickers are more in demand.

“Now the tea pickers are pretty.” The reporter found that many tea garden bosses have recently been busy, proposed free accommodation, from the residence to the tea garden shuttle, to ensure skilled workers daily income of not less than 60 yuan and some good Conditions, pay close attention to the "predetermined" more skilled workers to come to service, and add tea and other tools, so that "everything is ready, only waiting for spring tea sprout."

Recently, the reporter was informed that the relevant departments of the city are actively coordinating and organizing tea-picking workers, expanding export channels, and instructing major tea factories to prepare well for processing.
