It is expected that the contradiction between the supply and demand of isopropyl alcohol on the Chinese market will continue to be very prominent for some time to come.

Asian capacity development is faster

The global production capacity of isopropyl alcohol is currently about 2.7 million tons, mainly in North America, East Asia and Europe. The United States is the largest producer of isopropyl alcohol in the world, with an annual production capacity of about 800,000 tons, accounting for about one third of global production capacity.

In recent years, the Asian economy is accelerating its development and the production capacity of isopropyl alcohol is also increasing. At present, the annual production capacity of isopropyl alcohol in Asia has reached nearly 800,000 tons, and there is one in three points, Japan, Korea, China, India and China. Taiwan and other countries have now become the major producers of isopropyl alcohol in the world. Europe is the traditional place of production of isopropanol. At present, the annual production capacity of isopropyl alcohol is about 700,000 tons.

Currently, there are more than 20 companies in the world producing isopropyl alcohol. There are 4 ultra-large-scale enterprises with an annual production capacity of over 200,000 tons, and 8 large-scale enterprises with an annual production capacity of over 100,000 tons. The annual production capacity is over 50,000 tons. There are 12 companies.

Among them, companies with large capacity are: Shell Chemicals, with an annual production capacity of 480,000 tons; ExxonMobil Chemical, USA, with an annual production capacity of 380,000 tons; and Dow Chemical with an annual production capacity of 280,000 tons; Germany Sasol Olefins & Surfactants, with an annual capacity of 230,000 tons.

Among the 12 companies with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons and above, there are six Asian companies, occupying half of the country, of which Japan has two companies, and China, Taiwan, South Korea and India each have a company. Chinese mainland companies are PetroChina Jinzhou Petrochemical Company with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons.

Asian consumption is the largest in the world

In the international market, North America and Europe have always been the main consumers of isopropyl alcohol. In recent years, the consumption of isopropyl alcohol in Asia has been increasing. It has now surpassed North America and has become the largest consumer of isopropyl alcohol in the world.

At present, the total consumption of isopropyl alcohol in the world is about 2.2 million tons, of which the consumption in Asia is about 780,000 tons, the consumption in North America is about 650,000 tons, and the consumption in Europe is about 500,000 tons. These three regions The consumption accounts for nearly 90% of the world's consumption. It is estimated that in the future, the consumption of isopropyl alcohol in the world will continue to grow steadily at an average annual rate of 2% to 3%. By 2015, the total consumption of isopropyl alcohol in the world will reach 2.4 million tons, including consumption in Asia. Will occupy a bigger share.

Low domestic production willingness

At present, China's annual production capacity of isopropyl alcohol is approximately 160,000 tons. The main production enterprises are: PetroChina Jinzhou Petrochemical Company, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons; Shandong Dongying Haike Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd., with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons; Shandong Zibonoo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. has an annual capacity of 20,000 tons.

Now China's annual output of isopropanol reaches about 120,000 tons, while the annual demand in the domestic market is about 230,000 tons, and the market gap is about 100,000 to 120,000 tons. Therefore, in recent years, large quantities of isopropyl alcohol have been imported from abroad every year. . In 2006, the amount of imported isopropanol in the Chinese market was 95,000 tons. In 2009, the import volume reached 102,000 tons.

Although the contradiction between the supply and demand of isopropyl alcohol on the Chinese market in recent years is very prominent, it is known from the relevant information that since the production of isopropyl alcohol is constrained by many factors such as the supply of raw materials, production processes, and environmental protection, it is planned to build new and new products in the coming years. There are few companies that have expanded the isopropanol project, and now only CNPC Jinzhou Petrochemical Company plans to build a set of isopropyl alcohol production equipment. It will also implement isopropyl alcohol co-production of isopropyl ether to develop and produce a variety of isopropyl alcohol downstream products. , But now the project has no substantial progress.

It is expected that in the next few years, the demand for isopropyl alcohol on the Chinese market will continue to grow rapidly. The average annual growth rate will reach 8% to 10%. By 2015, the market demand for isopropyl alcohol in China will reach About 350,000 tons, the domestic production of isopropyl alcohol is expected to be in the 180,000 to 200,000 tons, the market supply will still have a large gap, a large number of imports of isopropyl alcohol each year, the contradiction between supply and demand will remain very prominent.
