Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 27 - A new study in the United States found that a placental stem cell can repair a damaged heart after a heart attack in an experimental mouse and avoid rejection of the host immune system. The research results were published in the new issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Researchers at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in the United States have shown that mouse placental stem cells can help pregnant mothers repair heart damage. Their new study confirmed that a cell called cell regeneration is called Cdx2. Placenta stem cells.

In animal experiments, the researchers first induced three groups of male mice to have a heart attack, then the first group received Cdx2 stem cell treatment, the second group received placental stem cells that did not express Cdx2, and the third group received saline treatment for control.

It was found that the heart tissue of mice treated with Cdx2 stem cells showed significant improvement and regeneration. After 3 months, stem cells migrate directly to the heart lesion, forming new blood vessels and cardiomyocytes. Heart failure occurred in the latter two groups of mice and there was no sign of regeneration in the heart.

The study also found that Cdx2 cells possess all proteins of embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are highly undifferentiated cells that develop into a variety of tissues and organs.

Hina Chowdhury, director of cardiovascular regenerative medicine at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, said: "We have been able to isolate Cdx2 cells from human placenta in full-term, so it is expected to design a better than the past. Human heart stem cell therapy."
